UnitedHealthOne announced special health reform law transition
procedures that affects new insurance applications made in December
2010. These changes do not impact short term medical Insurance or
Dental insurance applications.
From December 2, 2010 - December 17, 2010, you may only request a January 1, 2011, or later effective date (but no greater than 60 days) for renewable health plan applications. This "relaxation" of the 30-day effective date wait only applies to the dates mentioned. Immediate December 2010 effective dates are no longer available for renewable health insurance. Short term medical insurance continues to be available on an immediate basis with an effective date of the next day after an online application.
Beginning December 18, 2010, and moving forward, the 30-day effective date window will resume. This means for all renewable health applications received on December 18, 2010, and after, the soonest effective date will be 30 days from the date received.
Remember to bridge gaps in coverage with an inexpensive short term medical insurance policy that is available at the same time and on the same quote page as the regular renewable insurance.
